Corrugated cardboard is an incredibly versatile packaging material that is used in a wide variety of applications, from food and beverage packaging to shipping boxes and displays. The strength of the cardboard is critical to its performance, and the right board strength can make all the difference in terms of protecting the products inside.
There are many factors to consider when choosing the right board strength for your application. The most important are:
The weight of the product being packaged.
The heavier the product, the stronger the cardboard will need to be.
The size of the package.
The larger the package, the more support it will need.
The intended use of the package.
If the package is going to be shipped, it will need to be able to withstand the rigors of transport.
The type of product being packaged.
Some products, such as food and beverages, require special packaging to protect them from contamination.
Once you have considered all of these factors, you can start to narrow down your choices. There are several different grades of corrugated cardboard, each with its own strength characteristics. The most common grades are:
Regular slotted container (RSC).
This is the most common type of cardboard box. It is made from single-wall corrugated cardboard and is suitable for lightweight products.
Double-wall corrugated.
This type of cardboard is made from two layers of corrugated cardboard and is more durable than RSC. It is suitable for heavier products.
Triple-wall corrugated.
This type of cardboard is made from three layers of corrugated cardboard and is the strongest type of corrugated cardboard. It is suitable for very heavy products.
In addition to the grade of cardboard, you will also need to consider the thickness of the cardboard. The thickness of the cardboard is measured in points, with each point equaling 0.001 inches. The thicker the cardboard, the stronger it will be.
Once you have chosen the right board strength and thickness, you can be sure that your corrugated cardboard packaging will provide the protection your products need.
