Introduction
Corrugated boxes are ubiquitous in the packaging industry, providing protection and transportation for a wide range of products. The manufacturing process involves sophisticated equipment designed to produce boxes that meet specific requirements for strength, durability, and efficiency. Understanding the different types of corrugated box manufacturing equipment is essential for optimizing production and ensuring high-quality packaging solutions.
Corrugator
Single-Facer Corrugator
The single-facer corrugator forms the core of a corrugated board, which consists of two paper liners and an inner layer of corrugated flute. This machine uses a series of heated revolving rolls to apply adhesive to one side of a paper liner and then press it against a corrugated sheet.
Double-Facer Corrugator
The double-facer corrugator combines two single-faced boards into a complete corrugated board. It uses a different set of revolving rolls to apply adhesive to the exposed corrugated surface of one board and then bonds it with another paper liner, forming a three-layer structure.
Flexo Folder Gluer
Single-Pass Rotary Folder Gluer
The single-pass rotary folder gluer automatically folds and glues a preprinted corrugated blank into a box. It consists of a series of rollers that guide the blank through different folding and gluing stations, forming the front, bottom, and back of the box.
Multi-Pass Folder Gluer
The multi-pass folder gluer requires multiple passes of the box blank to complete the folding and gluing process. It offers greater flexibility and precision, allowing for the production of more complex box designs with intricate gluing patterns.
Cutting and Converting Equipment
Die-Cutting Machine
The die-cutting machine uses a sharp die to score and cut the corrugated board into specific shapes and sizes. It is used to create boxes with custom designs, perforations, and other features.
Slitter-Scorer
The slitter-scorer cuts and scores corrugated board in preparation for cutting and folding. It uses a series of rotating blades to score the board, making it easier to fold at the desired locations.
Other Equipment
Inkjet Printing Machine
The inkjet printing machine prints variable data, such as barcodes, logos, and product information, directly onto the corrugated board. It allows for on-demand printing, reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
Robotic Arm
The robotic arm is used to automate specific tasks in the corrugated box manufacturing process, such as picking and placing blanks or finished boxes. It offers increased productivity and reduces labor costs.
